Benefits of Tahini

Tahini is a major ingredient in baba ganoush and humus. It is from sesame seeds pureed and results to a peanut-butter like taste. These seeds are hulled, roasted, or it is also made from raw sesame seeds. what are the benefits of tahini?

 

Sesame seed are known to contain numerous phytosterols compared to other nuts. These phtosterols helps in lowering cholesterol in our body and has an anti-cancerous effect. Since sesame seeds are covered with a hard layer, it is advisable to consume tahini in a paste form so that all the nutrients it has will be easily absorbed by our body.

 

Two tablespoon of tahini from roasted seeds contains 5 grams of protein, 16 grams of fat, 6 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fibre and 178 calories. This serving would provide your body’s daily requirements need of calcium, iron, thiamine, phosphorus, and magnesium. Worry no more about the fat because only 2 of the 16 grams are saturated. It means that the rest are good fats for your body, specially your heart.

 

 

Benefits of Tahini:

  1.       It’s high in good fats (unsaturated). Don’t worry, it won’t make you fat. These kind of fats are good for the heart.
  2.       Rich in minerals like phosphorus, magnesium, iron, potassium, and lecithin. The iron in tahini is three times more than of the beef’s liver. Potassium is good for your heart to keep them pumping in a regular rhythm. Like calcium, phosphorus helps in building strong bones and teeth. Magnesium would act as an enzyme to regulate all the biochemical reactions inside our body.
